Nightlase™ Laser Snore Therapy

If you suffer from snoring, you are not alone. Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) can be seen in almost 25% of the general population and tends to increase with age. However, for most suffering with OSA and distruptions due to snoring, these short-term solutions are uncomfortable or ultimately fail. This is where minimally invasive laser assisted uvulopalatoplasty (LAUP) has become the newest frontier in treatment. Nightlase™ LAUP is a laser treatment offered in office by Dr. Beasley who was taught by the inventor, Dr. Harvey S. Shiffman. It consists of an initial at home sleep study followed by three- 45 minute laser sessions three weeks apart. Most patients will then need an enhancement session every 12 months.

OSA disrupts your sleep as well as your partner's. For some couples, it is so disruptive that they end up sleeping in separate beds. Here is what happens:

snoring

In a normal breathing passage your throat is open and unobstructed, as illustrated in the picture on the left.

snoring  In some people this passage is partially obstructed by the soft tissue at the base of the throat, resulting in snoring.

snoring  In more severe cases the airway is almost completely obstructed. This is called obstructive sleep apnea.

What is Nightlase™? What are the benefits?

Using the minimally-invasive laser treatment Nightlase™ LAUP, Dr. Beasley is able to tighten the tissues of the soft palate and uvular by contracting the collagen in that area. In doing so, it increases the airway as seen in the picture to the right. Ultimately this allows for increased blood oxygenation levels, better sleep, less snoring, and less sleep apnea effects.

If you're a snorer, or suspect you may have sleep apnea, you may request an appointment with our office.

If you are interested in getting approved for the Nightlase™ LAUP treatment, you can go ahead and fill out this paper work and bring it with you to Dr. Beasley's office at your next appointment to get an at home sleep test shipped to you. Upon approval, you can get one step closer to peaceful and restful nights!
