Alabama Dentist - Smile Restoration Using Crowns and Veneers
Bernie’s initial concern was his fractured tooth #3, which unfortunately was non-restorable and required replacement with a dental implant. He was also concerned with how his anterior teeth had worn and darkened and he really wanted his smile to look younger.
Bernie had existing crowns on teeth #7 and 10 that did not match the color or translucency of his adjacent teeth. The edges of #6, 8, 9, and 11 had wear into the dentin. He also had considerable orthodontic issues, which caused insufficient space for adequate thickness for porcelain restorations on his upper teeth.
Prior to the restorative phase, orthodontist Dr. Ronald Brown assisted in straightening Bernie’s teeth. Once the 10-month orthodontic phase was completed, Dr. Beasley applied AACD accreditation smile design principals, utilizing the aid of computer imaging to communicate the new smile design to Bernie and gain his input and approval.
This imaging photo along with several smile design records and other information was given to Mr. Krieg DeGraff of D & M laboratory to aid in creating the diagnostic wax-up. Dr. Beasley and Bernie evaluated temporary crowns made from the diagnostic wax-up for proper aesthetics, phonetics, function, and comfort. Bernie also utilized a Viajet oral irrigator daily during the time he was in temporaries to aid in keeping his tissue healthy and clean interproximally.
All together, teeth # 2 through 14 were restored. Teeth # 2, 3, and 14 were restored with porcelain fused to metal crowns. Teeth # 4, 7, 10, and 13 were restored with Authentic porcelain crowns. Teeth # 6, 8, 9, and 11 were restored with Authentic porcelain veneers. All crowns were created by ceramist Mr. Kreig DeGraff of D & M Dental Arts, Merced, California.
