Bonded porcelain restorations are not to be confused porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns which are easily detected due to their dark gumline margins and differing light reflectivity as compared to neighboring teeth. Composite restorations usually have about ½ the lifespan of porcelain and are prone to absorbing the stains of foods and drinks over time. The average life of composites is 5-7 years and they usually continue to darken as they age.
