As December brings the old year to a close, it’s a great time to set goals for the year to come. This might include a major life change, such as a new job—or even a new romance! If one of these items is on your list for 2019, a smile makeover may be just the thing to help you get there.

Having a great smile can give your self-confidence a real boost. It can also affect how you are perceived by others. According to a survey by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, 99.7% of adults believe a smile is an important social asset and 96% believe an attractive smile makes a person more appealing to members of the opposite sex. At the same time, three quarters of adults feel that an unattractive smile can hurt a person’s chances for career success.

If you aren’t pleased with your smile and want a new look, we can help you figure out which cosmetic dental treatments could be right for you. The answer might be something simple—like an overall brightening of the smile with professional teeth whitening, or fixing a small crack or chip in a single tooth with cosmetic tooth bonding. If you’re unhappy with worn-down or crooked teeth, dental veneers or orthodontic treatment might be the way to go. In fact, many adults find that orthodontic treatment with clear aligners is a great way to get a beautiful, straight smile without drawing attention to the fact that a makeover is in progress.

Of course, it’s not only important for your smile to look good but also for your whole mouth to stay healthy. So if you are experiencing any tooth pain, unusual mouth sores or gum problems, it’s time for you to come in for an exam. And if it’s been a while since you’ve had a dental checkup and professional teeth cleaning, why not make an appointment for early in the year? Don’t start the new year with last year’s dental problems!

Dental ImplantHow Dental Implants from Your Huntsville Dentist Can Complete Your Smile

Dental implants are one of the most popular options to replace missing teeth and give you back your smile. There are many reasons why dental implants are so prominent, from their beauty and inconspicuous look to their high success rate and stability. When you choose dental implants from Dr. Brad Beasley of Beasley Family & Implant Dentistry, one of the top dentists serving the Huntsville area, know that you are investing in both a cosmetically pleasing product, as well as a great boost to your oral health

So, What Makes Implants So Great?

Dental implants are virtually indistinguishable from your natural teeth. Being made from completely natural-looking materials, people will never even know that you replacement teeth! Your complete, beautiful smile will be restored.

Natural good looks aren’t the only benefit of dental implants, they are also,

  • Beautiful: The implant crown is made of light-reflective material that looks just like tooth enamel. They also repel stains so your dental implants will continue to enhance your smile for years.
  • Highly Successful: According to the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, dental implants boast a success rate of over 95 percent, making them the most successful surgical implant.
  • Completely Stable: Due to being fully embedded in the jawbone, dental implants will never move around, unlike partials and dentures.
  • Healthy: Just like natural teeth, dental implants can easily be cleaned by brushing and flossing.
  • Convenient: Unlike partials and dentures, do not need to be taken out.

Dental implants can replace one missing tooth, or your entire smile. They can also provide support for a denture, which is snapped on over the implants and is then referred to as an overdenture.

Additionally, other tooth replacement methods can actually cause supporting bone to diminish over time. Dental implants work differently: by fusing with the jawbone and locking into place, they actually promote bone growth and can help restore the natural contours of your face and jawline. Thanks to dental implants, you can restore both your oral health and your smile's beauty!

Find out if cosmetic dentistry could improve the shape and look of your smile.cosmetic surgery

While some people deal with teeth that are too small, too long, too sharp, or just misaligned, there are others who deal with uneven or excessive gum tissue. Excessive or asymmetrical gum tissue can be the result of genetics, or perhaps an injury or infection is to blame. Whatever the case may be, if you think reshaping the gums could give you the smile you want then our Athens, AL, serving the Huntsville, AL, area family dentist Dr. Brad Beasley is here to tell you how cosmetic dentistry could help.

What Causes Gum Tissue to Grow or Change?

There are many reasons why the shape of your gum tissue can change over time. Maybe you are dealing with gum disease, in which pockets of infection form within the gums and cause the gums to pull away from the teeth. This can make teeth appear longer while gums look rather uneven or asymmetrical.

Other times, people are just born with gummy smiles, which make their teeth look significantly smaller by comparison. If any of these scenarios sound like you then our Athens, AL, dentist serving the Huntsville, AL, area can easily improve the aesthetics of your smile with this simple gum procedure.

How Can Gingival Cosmetic Surgery Help?

Gingival cosmetic surgery, also referred to as gum sculpting, is used to reshape and contour the gums to improve their overall alignment and shape, as well as to make your smile look more even. We know that an attractive smile can easily make someone appear younger while also improving confidence. Let gingival cosmetic surgery provide you with the self-esteem boost you need.

Before the procedure, we will mark the gums to show you how much we plan to remove during the procedure. Once we know that you are satisfied, we will apply local anesthesia to the area to numb the region prior to reshaping. When the anesthesia has taken full effect, we will begin to cut away excess gum tissue or reshape and contour gums to make sure they are even. In some cases, a small amount of bone will need to be shaved down in order to improve the overall look and results of your gum reshaping procedure.

Beasley Family & Implant Dentistry is also proud to provide comprehensive dental services to the Huntsville, AL, area. If you have questions about cosmetic dentistry in Athens, AL, then schedule your consultation today.

At the first-ever Players Weekend in August 2017, Major League Baseball players wore jerseys with their nicknames on the back. One player — Cleveland Indians shortstop, Francisco Lindor — picked the perfect moniker to express his cheerful, fun-loving nature: “Mr. Smile.” And Lindor gave fans plenty to smile about when he belted a 2-run homer into the stands while wearing his new jersey!

Lindor has explained that he believes smiling is an important part of connecting with fans and teammates alike: “I’ve never been a fan of the guy that makes a great play and then acts like he’s done it 10,000 times — smile, man! We’ve got to enjoy the game.”

We think Lindor is right: Smiling is a great way to generate good will. And it feels great too… as long as you have a smile that’s healthy, and that looks as good as you want it to. But what if you don’t? Here are some things we can do at the dental office to help you enjoy smiling again:

Routine Professional Cleanings & Exams. This is a great place to start on the road toward a healthy, beautiful smile. Even if you are conscientious about brushing and flossing at home, you won’t be able to remove all of the disease-causing dental plaque that can hide beneath the gum line, especially if it has hardened into tartar, but we can do it easily in the office. Then, after a thorough dental exam, we can identify any problems that may be affecting your ability to smile freely, such as tooth decay, gum disease, or cosmetic dental issues.

Cosmetic Dental Treatments. If your oral health is good but your smile is not as bright as you’d like it to be, we can discuss a number of cosmetic dental treatments that can help. These range from conservative procedures such as professional teeth whitening and bonding to more dramatic procedures like porcelain veneers or crowns.

Tooth Replacement. Many people hide their smiles because they are embarrassed by a gap from a missing tooth. That’s a shame, because there are several excellent tooth-replacement options in a variety of price ranges. These include partial and full dentures, bridgework, and dental implants. So don’t let a missing tooth stop you from being Mr. (or Ms.) Smile!

When someone comes to Beasley Family & Implant Dentistry for a cosmetic dentistry consultation, he or she can expect a friendly discussion of what and how changes can be made, how long they will take and what the costs are. Frankly, a skilled cosmetic dentist such as Dr. Beasley makes several suggestions for smile improvement. In the end, patient satisfaction takes priority.

What Dr. Beasley can offer

The list of services offered by your Huntsville and Athens cosmetic dentist is long. It addresses every kind of aesthetic smile defect, including:

  • Chips, cracks, pits
  • Uneven tooth length
  • Odd tooth shape
  • Deep stains
  • Gaps and overcrowding
  • Poor bite, protruding front teeth, tooth rotation
  • Thin enamel
  • Excess gum tissue ("gummy smile")
  • Dark metal fillings
  • Crowns with dark lines at the gum line

While smile gaps and failing or dark crowns and fillings fall into the restorative dentistry category, they also have a strong aesthetic component. Dr. Beasley may address them with porcelain crowns, tooth-colored fillings, dental implants and conventional bridges and dentures. For strictly cosmetic changes, here are a few of the services which could play a role in your smile makeover.

Zoom! Whitening This popular treatment predictably and safely improves tooth color by up to 8 shades. Economical and cost-sparing, the Zoom! process happens right in the dental chair. The dentist swabs on concentrated hydrogen peroxide gel, allows it to seep in and rinses it off. Newly whitened teeth stay bright with good brushing and flossing and occasional touch-ups.

Porcelain veneers and Durathin veneers These enhancements cover stains, chips, gaps and mild overcrowding. Made from thin porcelain, both types of laminates adhere to the front of selected healthy teeth. Durathins, however, have the advantage of being reversible. Veneers last for 10 years or more with good at-home and in-office care.

Invisalign clear aligners They are light, comfortable and invisible, yet do the job that only conventional braces used to do. Teens and adults like Invisalign because of the shorter treatment times, discreet appearance, and ease of hygiene and diet.

Cosmetic gum surgery Performed in-office, this simple procedure removes excess gum tissue, unveiling more tooth structure. It also evens the gum line for a more symmetrical smile.
